Delete your Spense account and data.

You can erase your Spense account and your budget data yourself, from inside the app, without emailing anyone. It works the same for a guest as for an account with an email, and it can't be undone. The one thing it can't do is stop an App Store or Google Play subscription, so if you pay for Spense, start with step 1.

Cancel a store subscription first

Apple and Google bill your subscription, not Spense, so only they can stop it. Deleting your Spense account doesn't tell them, and the charges would carry on. Open the More tab and, on the Subscription card, tap Cancel Subscription. Spense opens Apple's or Google's subscription page, and you finish there. Cancel or change your plan walks through it.

If you're on Spense's free trial and never picked a plan, skip this step: there's no card on file and nothing to cancel. The same goes if the card shows no Cancel Subscription: Spense only offers it while a store plan is set to renew, so if you already cancelled, the button is gone and you're done with this step.

🐟 Want a copy first?
Deleting erases your history for good. To keep it, open the Reflect tab, pick a month and tap Export CSV, then choose All Transactions. Each file covers one month, so repeat it for every month you want. Your phone's share sheet lets you save it or send it anywhere.

Tap Delete Account & Data

On the More tab, scroll all the way down. Under the Support card (and Log Out, if you signed in with Apple, Google or an email) there's a red Delete Account & Data button. Guests don't see Log Out, because a guest who logged out couldn't get back in, but they do get the delete button: it's how a guest wipes their data.

🐟 Trial over, and Spense only shows the plans?
When your trial or plan has ended, Spense opens on the plans screen and the More tab is out of reach. Look at the very bottom of that screen, under the plans: a small Delete my account & data link opens the same confirmation as step 3. You don't have to subscribe to leave.

Type DELETE and confirm

A box titled Delete Account & Data says what's about to go. With an email on the account it reads This permanently deletes the account for your email, including all budgets, transactions, and bank connections. This cannot be undone. As a guest it says You're using a guest account with no backup email, and that there's no way to recover the data.

Under Type DELETE to confirm, type the word. Capitals don't matter. Permanently Delete stays grey until the word is right, then turns red. Tap it. A spinner shows while Spense erases your data, and then you land on the welcome screen with Your account and all data were deleted. Changed your mind before that? Cancel closes the box and nothing happens.

🐟 It said Deletion Failed?
Then nothing was deleted. Spense says Nothing was deleted — your account is still intact. Please check your connection and try again. You're still signed in, so try again once you're back online. Running it twice is safe: a second try picks up where the first stopped.
✅
Your account is gone.
Here's what Spense erased:
  • Your budgets, categories, targets and goals
  • Every transaction and account, linked or added by hand
  • Your monthly reports, drops and badges
  • Your Ask Spense chats
  • Your email choices, and your contact at our email provider
  • Your sign-in, so the account no longer exists
It also asks Plaid to remove your bank connections, and turns App Lock off on this phone. Signing up again later, even with the same Apple ID, Google account or email, starts an empty Spense: none of the old data comes back.
